What can I say? Barry’s Bootcamp ranks among the toughest, most intense workouts on ClassPass. What’s that you say? Barry’s Bootcamp isn’t on ClassPass? Wrong! It’s just hidden! Hit up the Barry’s Studio Page and book from there. I don’t know why you can’t find it with the class scheduler, but now you know the secret.
To me, the workout is a touch easier, but completely different, than Bodyburn (aka the hardest class on ClassPass). It’s 30 minutes of treadmill intervals and 30 minutes of floor exercises. Different instructors will divide this in different ways (ie. 15-15-15-15 or 10-10-10-10-10-10). A friend told me that the actual Barry subbed in for her class and had them do 30 minutes straight treadmill, then 30 minutes floor. I think I would die. Anyways, the treadmill is pretty intense- think insane inclines and pushing yourself to a serious run. The floor workout is pretty straightforward HIIT exercises. Barry’s claims you’ll burn between 700-1000 calories and I believe it.
In my opinion, the quality of a Barry’s class depends on the instructor and the location. I took classes at TriBeCa, Noho & Chelsea- Noho is by far the nicest and most energetic. Second place goes to TriBeCa, and Chelsea was a bit disappointing. As previously mentioned, there is a floor section and a treadmill section happening at the same time, so it puts a ton of pressure on the instructor to be on point and keeping the count correct. If you can, I recommend a class with Layla Luciano. She is so on top of it, inspiring, vocal, etc. Plus, she’s super hot. This is Layla’s Instagram. This is Layla cleaning mirrors. This is Layla doing couple’s yoga on a beach.
The workout is set to loud music, tons of mirrors, and red lights- basically, everyone looks like they’re permanently insta-filtered in Hefe. It’s pretty sexy. Bottom Line: DO IT!
